Flight of the Rising Phoenix
Combine society is modeled after feudal Japan. Civilian and warrior alike dedicate their lives to the Combine. Since the Clan invasion two decades ago, the Combine has lost much in the way of men, material, and territory. No loss was felt so keenly as the assasination of Omi Kurita. Shortly before the Inner Sphere’s combined assault on Clan Space returned triumphant, Omi was poisoned to death in the Temple of the Five Pillars. Many believe she was killed for her love for Victor Davion, but numerous theories abound as to the true motive. The only certainty is the reaction of The Coordinator. Grief stricken with the death of his only daughter he pumped massive funding in to the ISF and closed the borders for months not allowing any traffic to enter or leave the Pesht District. The Military Machine of the Combine ground in to gear as entire regiments were moved toward the Lyran and Davion borders. Everyone, Combine citizen or not expected massive retaliation from The Coordinator, but the invasions never came. After several tense months, forces were pulled away from the border with the Federated Suns, though the border with the Lyran Commonwealth remained heavily reinforced.
Now, almost a decade later the Combine’s troops are focused once more on the Clan threat. With the removal of Katrina Steiner from power in the Lyran Commonwealth and Viktor Davion once again on the throne of the Federated Suns. The Combine still maintains a high level of alert, but for the most part life has returned to normal.
